The owner of this project is the National Highway Administration under the Peruvian Ministry of Transport, with a construction period of 900 days. The project includes a 1774m long main tunnel and a 214m long emergency tunnel, with a single tunnel and two lanes, and a maximum burial depth of 328m. 
 
At the commencement ceremony, the Minister of Transport of Peru, Eduardo Gonzalez, stated that the Machu Picchu Tunnel project is an important component of the road network in the Cusco region. After completion, the project can effectively improve local transportation conditions. At the same time, it is also a rare tunnel project in Peru and has important milestone significance for the Peruvian infrastructure market.
