At an altitude of approximately 1,800 meters in Malaysia’s Genting Highlands, a landmark theme park in Southeast Asia stands above the clouds. However, the combination of high humidity, frequent fog, heavy rainfall, and intense ultraviolet exposure has long posed serious waterproofing challenges for the site.

Working closely with its overseas authorized applicator, Golden Channel Services Sdn Bhd (GCS), Joaboa Tech addressed the high-altitude leakage issues through a dual approach of systematic training and empowerment + full-scenario waterproofing solutions, providing a practical reference for waterproofing projects in high-humidity climates overseas.

Empowering Overseas Projects: Putting an Authorized Applicator Training System into Practice

Long-term protection of a project requires not only an accurate waterproofing solution, but also standardized and professional installation.

To address challenges such as varying technical standards and a shortage of skilled professionals in overseas markets, Joaboa Tech launched its Overseas Authorized Applicator Training Program.

The first training session was held at Joaboa Tech’s Shishou Production Base. The program adopted a comprehensive training model combining on-site observation, theoretical instruction, hands-on practice, and project case reviews. The curriculum covered key areas including product knowledge, standardized installation procedures, and climate-adapted waterproofing solutions.

Overseas authorized applicators, including GCS from Malaysia, were invited to participate. Those who successfully completed the on-site assessment received official certification from Joaboa Tech.

Joaboa Tech’s First Overseas Authorized Applicator Training & Official Certification Ceremony

The value of this training system was fully demonstrated during the Genting Highlands project.

As a Malaysian applicator with no previous experience in installing Bondsure® TPO, GCS was able to quickly master the key installation techniques through a dual-track approach combining training in China with on-site technical guidance overseas, ultimately delivering the project to a high standard.

This project represents an important step in Joaboa Tech’s transition from “product export” to “system export” — extending beyond individual products to deliver technical standards, materials, installation expertise, and end-to-end support as an integrated system.

Today, this empowerment model has become a key part of Joaboa Tech’s overseas development strategy.

Joaboa Tech and Its Overseas Partner Join Forces to Tackle Waterproofing Challenges

Located in a tropical highland mountainous climate, the Genting Highlands project faces conditions that are significantly different from Malaysia’s hot and humid lowland areas. These environmental factors presented multiple challenges to the waterproofing system:

  • High humidity and frequent fog: Relative humidity remains around 75%–90% throughout the year. The substrate can remain damp for extended periods, while frequent fog significantly reduces the available installation window.
  • Heavy rainfall: Annual precipitation approaches 3,000 mm, with frequent thunderstorms placing high demands on drainage performance and resistance to water pressure.
  • Temperature variation and substrate movement: The day-night temperature difference can reach 8–10°C, increasing the risk of substrate cracking and deformation.
  • UV exposure and aging: At high altitude, strong scattered UV radiation accelerates the aging of exposed materials, creating stringent requirements for weather resistance.
  • Mountainous wind gusts: Localized wind gusts are significant, requiring the roofing system to provide excellent resistance to wind uplift.

Under such conditions, conventional waterproofing materials may face a combination of challenges, including bonding failure, cracking, water migration, and shortened service life.

To address these conditions, the Joaboa Tech team worked closely with GCS and the project owner through multiple rounds of site inspections and technical discussions. Following a comprehensive assessment, the project ultimately selected Bondsure® TPO Waterproofing Membrane, developed for demanding and complex application environments.

Eight Key Advantages for High-Altitude Waterproofing

Designed to address the specific climatic conditions of the Genting Highlands, Bondsure® TPO provides eight key advantages that helped tackle the project’s waterproofing challenges:

1. Application on Damp Substrates
The self-adhesive layer supports wet application, helping reduce waiting time for substrate drying in high-humidity and foggy conditions.

2. Skin-Type Bonding
The membrane closely bonds to the substrate, helping localize leakage points and making inspection and maintenance more straightforward during the rainy season.

3. High Elongation and Flexibility
With an elongation at break of ≥500%, the membrane can accommodate substrate movement and help resist cracking caused by day-night temperature variations.

4. Weather and UV Resistance
The membrane offers resistance to UV exposure and heat-and-moisture aging, while its reflective and heat-insulating properties help slow the aging of exposed materials.

5. Excellent Wind Uplift Resistance
The fully bonded system provides strong adhesion to the substrate, helping withstand wind gusts in mountainous environments.

6. Dual Protection at Seams
Overlaps can be sealed through self-adhesion or hot-air welding, providing reliable seam integrity designed to maintain performance throughout the service life of the membrane.

7. Safe and Environmentally Friendly Installation
The system requires no torch heating or solvent-based application, making it suitable for densely occupied environments such as tourism and cultural facilities.

8. International Professional Certification
Bondsure® TPO has been tested through practical applications in Mongolia, Southeast Asia, South America, Oceania, and other regions, and has also obtained the internationally recognized FM certification.
